Director’s Statement
Since its inception in 1989, the Hospitality Industry Diversity Institute has championed the cause of inclusion as an organizational value. Through policy, education and outreach efforts, HIDI is at the cornerstone of influencing awareness and acceptance of workplace diversity and its very significant bottom line impact. The results of this effort are seen in greater representation of workplace diversity and seen in enhanced productivity and profitability. More importantly, the results of this effort are seen in inclusive work environments that afford all employees the opportunity to excel. We look forward to continuing this work and we encourage all stakeholders to embrace and support this initiative.

Taking its cues from the global hospitality industry, the Hospitality Industry Diversity Institute (HIDI) is defined by its inclusivity. The institute is a non-partisan participant in research and education issues affecting the entire hospitality industry and its workforce.
HIDI offers educational programs that stress the importance of including the larger community in a business culture. By educating individuals and businesses to embrace diversity as a core business value, we help organizations improve employee morale, business performance and employee productivity. We also provide resources for diversity-related applied research on subjects including gender bias, employee retention, special needs, multicultural workforce strategies and vocational training.
Specific HIDI service offerings include:
- Educational seminars and forums
- Independent surveys
- Applied research
- Community outreach and awareness.
