Invaluable to students, educators and historians, the Archives include the publications, oral histories, financials and artifacts that chronicle the hospitality industry’s historical record. |
To this end, the Hilton College houses and maintains the official repository of the hospitality industry, the Hospitality Industry Archives. The collection provides historical resources invaluable to students, educators, industry professionals and print and documentary film media around the world. It is our hope that these collections also provide documentation and inspiration for future generations of hospitality industry professionals on the development of the modern hospitality industry and its impact on the global growth of business travel and tourism.
Built in 1989 through a grant from the Hilton Foundation, it is fitting that the Conrad N. Hilton Library & Archives’ first and largest archival collection came from the office of Conrad N. Hilton, founder of Hilton Hotels Corporation (HHC) and Hilton International (HI). This collection includes scrapbooks, news clippings, print ads, souvenirs from the openings of hotels around the world and even some hotel uniforms. HHC continues to transfer corporate records to the Archives, including those materials that reflect HHC acquisitions of Promus Hotel Corporation with Doubletree, Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn, Hampton Inn & Suites, Homewood Suites and Red Lion Hotels.
In addition to the Hilton artifact collection and the collections for each Hospitality Industry Hall of Honor inductee, the Hospitality Industry Archives is the official repository for AH&LA’s Audiovisual Collection and the out-of-print trade publications Hotel Monthly (1893-1959), Southern Hotel Journal (1924-1960), and Texas Hotel Review (1938-1988).
Archived items from other collections include annual reports, architectural scale models, blueprints, books, correspondence, film, manuals, memorabilia, news clippings, oral histories, photographs, postcards, print advertising and publicity materials, records and reports, scrapbooks, cancelled stock certificates, souvenirs and trade magazines. This collection not only houses records from the past but, importantly, it emphasizes documents from the emerging hospitality industry as well.
A sampling of the hospitality companies and interests represented within our collection includes:

While most materials are available to researchers, donors may limit access to sensitive documents and artifacts. To contribute, please contact our archivist, Mark E.
