GERI

Gaming Education and Research Institute

Since 1980, gaming has proliferated throughout the world. It has become a multi-billion-dollar industry with a growth rate of 12 percent per year for the past 10 years. It is the 9th largest industry in the United States. The Hilton College recognized that this trend will continue and believes it is in a natural position to have not just a regional impact but, rather, a global impact on both public policy and gaming management. It was for this reason that the Gaming Education and Research Institute (GERI) was formed in 1995 with the following goals:

  • Conduct broad based studies relating to public policy on gaming
  • Provide continuing education opportunities for gaming management
  • Provide gaming research for government and business.

GERI is global. It serves as moderator for gaming panels at international conferences, most recently in Korea, and is working with universities in France and Thailand and with other institutions and gaming businesses throughout the world. GERI is national. It is the educational partner for the National Indian Gaming Association and has provided curriculum, research and training programs for regulators, major casino industry providers and future employees of the casino industry. And, GERI is local. It has conducted research and focus groups for area pari-mutuel companies and Houston-based gaming organizations.
