Industry Networking

Make connections that open doors.

At Hilton College, opportunities abound to make connections that will propel you up the proverbial ladder of success. The College offers a myriad of activities that bring students and industry leaders together, including lecture series, joint events with student and professional organizations, career fairs and more. Here are just a few of the networking activities available to you—take advantage of these and make valuable contacts that will help you achieve your career goals!

Dean's Leadership Series – Every week during the fall and spring semesters, industry leaders from various sectors of the hospitality industry are invited to lecture as guests in Dean John Bowen's class. Depending on the speaker's area of expertise, topics might range from hiring practices and management techniques to changes in the hotel industry and successful entrepreneurship—and much more. You can either enroll in this class (HRMA 2115) for course credit, or attend any lecture that sparks your interest. You'll also have the chance to ask questions of the executives after their presentations. For a schedule of these speakers, check the College's event calendar and watch for related ListServ announcements.

Hospitality Industry Hall of Honor – Each October, the Hospitality Industry Hall of Honor recognizes leaders who have mastered their industries, inspired others and, most importantly, have served as exemplary role models for students. Participation in this annual event—either as a student leader who plans and manages the induction ceremony and dinner or as a volunteer—offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet and network with the giants of the hospitality industry. You'll also have the chance to talk with leaders through the Hospitality Hall of Honor Think Tank Series, in which industry experts discuss a variety of relevant and timely industry topics.

Eric Hilton Distinguished Chair Alumni Lecture Series – Twice a year, during the fall and spring semesters, accomplished alumni return to the classroom to discuss their career paths with students. Because these alumni, known collectively as Eric's Club, all have graduated from Hilton College at least 20 years ago and are a vice-president equivalent or above in a hospitality-related field, they are a valuable resource of insider information about the industry. Eric's Club members have great experiences to share and sage advice to impart to students about what makes people successful in their careers. These lectures are spirited and informative, and there is always time to ask questions. Get to know these Eric's Club speakers—they are happy to share their time and perspectives with you, and they are great contacts.

Our Faculty – One of your best networking resources can be found right in your classroom! Our faculty members are experts in their fields, with decades of experience, tons of industry know-how and valuable industry connections. Seek them out, learn from them and take advantage of their knowledge. They are here for you. To learn more about our faculty, check out the faculty directory, which lists our faculty's expertise, research interests and career highlights.

Guest Lecturers – In addition to our full-time and industry lecturers, industry experts, leaders and alumni also frequently visit Hilton College as guest lecturers. Some of the top executives, chefs and entrepreneurs from Houston, around the country and around the world often come to share their expertise with you—why not avail yourself of their knowledge?

Industry networking opportunities abound at Hilton College. But you have to take action, reaching out and making connections. With a little effort on your part, who knows what exciting internships or job possibilities might await?
