Giving back to their alma mater.
It all started in 1999 with a lecture series to honor distinguished hotelier Eric Hilton. Dr. Clinton L. Rappole, former Eric Hilton Distinguished Chair and Professor Emeritus, established the Eric Hilton Distinguished Chair Alumni Lecture Series that year with a goal of bringing accomplished alumni back into the classroom to discuss their career paths with students. Alphy Johnson ('76) was the first speaker. Today, two new lecturers are selected each year from varied sectors of the hospitality industry. Only graduates of Hilton College are considered for membership, and members must be out of college for at least 20 years and be an owner, officer or retired executive in hospitality or an allied field.
In 2005, the past lecturers created the Eric Hilton Distinguished Alumni Club, which they nicknamed "Eric's Club." The purpose of the Club is to promote the mission of the Conrad N. Hilton College at the University of Houston by building a legacy of student inspiration and alumni connectivity, as well as providing a network of support and resources to Hilton College. Collectively, this distinguished alumni group has generated more than $4 million in gifts to the College. Currently, Marty Breverman ('74) serves as chair of Eric's Distinguished Alumni Club.
